Is the Feldberg suitable for skiing? Yes, and in fact much better than many first-time visitors expect. The Feldberg ski resort offers around 33 kilometres of slopes in its core area, with 16 runs reaching altitudes of up to 1,450 metres. As the ski resort in the Black Forest with the most reliable snow conditions, skiing is generally possible here from early December right through to March; snow-making facilities ensure the main runs remain open even beyond this period.

Who is skiing at the Feldberg suitable for?

Many first-time visitors expect the Feldberg to be a small ski resort in the low mountain range. Reviews regularly show the opposite; the most common comment is along the lines of “the ski resort is bigger than expected”. The figures from Feldbergbahnen GmbH confirm this. Wide family runs on the Seebuck, more challenging slopes on the Grafenmatt and even an FIS World Cup run cater for all ability levels. In addition, there are further ski lifts in Altglashütten, Todtnauberg and Muggenbrunn, which are also included in the same ski pass.

Please note that these areas can only be reached by private car and no shuttle service is provided. The Feldberg is particularly well suited to families with children aged between 3 and 12. The practice slope and ‘Kinderländer’ – fenced-off beginners’ areas with a magic carpet – are located right next to the valley stations. Ski lessons are available from the age of 3, and the chairlift on the Feldberg allows children to travel up the mountain in comfort. This makes winter sports on the Feldberg a great option for parents who find the Alps too far away, too expensive or too challenging for their children. A common misconception costs families their place on a course every year. Ski courses at Feldberg can rarely be booked on the spot at short notice during the school holidays, as several independent ski schools share a limited number of places. Those who book early have the choice. These three ski schools offer lessons right in the ski resort:

All three ski schools employ qualified ski instructors and offer courses for children and adults. Group courses are available, whilst private lessons are more exclusive and may be fully booked well in advance, particularly during the school holidays. Ski hire is available at all three locations on the Feldberg (advance booking is recommended), so you don’t need to bring your own equipment in the car.

How far is it from the Feldberger Hof to the ski lifts?

Around 100 metres. The Feldberger Hof is situated at an altitude of around 1,300 metres, directly opposite the valley station at Seebuck, the family slope in the ski resort. You can walk to the slopes with the children in your ski boots – no car, no hunting for a parking space, no ski bus.

Day visitors have a different experience. On snowy weekends, spaces in the Feldberg multi-storey car park are in short supply; alternative parking spots along the pass road can mean long walks with skis, helmets and tired children. Hotel guests avoid this journey entirely. A lunch break in your own room, a ski lesson right on your doorstep and, in the afternoon, a visit to the 4,000 m² Fundorena to take a break from winter sports. How much does a ski pass cost at Feldberg?
